In 2004, a play written about the strike written by the historian Jolly Read was performed by Black Swan Theatre in Perth. Read used considerable artistic license to represent the events of the strike. Highlighting the role played by Dooley Binbin and Clancy McKenna, and downplaying that of Don McLeod, the play featured what have become the standard tropes of this story, for example the meeting at Skull Springs; the calendars; the walk-off on May Day; and the various confrontations with the police.
